What your child will do

Your child will choose from learning centers for art, blocks, dramatic play, math and science, and books. They will paint, work with Play-Doh, dig in the sand and water table and take on new arts and crafts projects every day.

What your child will learn

  • The letters of the alphabet, through songs, stories and art
  • How to share, take turns and work in a small group
  • How to ask questions and think through the answers
  • How to hold a crayon, a pencil and their own fork and spoon
  • How to follow a classroom routine and clean up after themselves

Growing independence

Preschool is where your child starts doing more on their own. They choose their activities, look after their own things and take pride in being part of a class.

How you will follow your child’s progress

Your child’s teacher watches how they are progressing and plans around what they are ready for. You receive an assessment in the fall, winter and spring, and you meet with their teacher after each one. There is one teacher for every ten children.

Starting preschool

Your child is welcome whether this is their first classroom or they are joining from our toddler room. We recommend a few shorter days to begin. Teachers introduce the routine step by step, and a child who is still working on toilet learning continues with their teacher’s support.
