What does Learning Through the Arts mean?

The Art Learning Center is a licensed school and child care center. Every classroom follows a daily schedule and Creative Curriculum, which is aligned with Pennsylvania’s Early Learning Standards, and our teachers teach it through art, music and play. Children build language, early literacy, math and social skills through hands-on work.

Will my child be ready for kindergarten?

Kindergarten readiness is the goal of our preschool and Pre-K programs. Children practice classroom routines, early letters and numbers, working in a group and managing their own time. Teachers assess each child through the year and share a kindergarten readiness checklist with you before your child moves on.

What is your quality rating?

The Art Learning Center is rated STAR 3 of 4 in Keystone STARS, Pennsylvania’s quality rating system for early learning and school-age programs.

Are meals provided?

Yes. A nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack are included in tuition, and menus are posted in each classroom. Tell us about any food allergies or restrictions.

How will I know how my child is doing?

Through conversations with your child’s teacher at drop-off and pickup, messages through Remind, and assessments with at least three parent-teacher conferences a year, at every age.

How do you help with toilet learning?

Toilet learning begins in our toddler room when a child is ready and continues in preschool. Teachers work with you so the routine is the same at home.

Do children rest during the day?

Yes. Nap time follows lunch in our toddler, preschool and Pre-K classrooms, and infants sleep on their own schedule.

What should my child bring?

A change of clothes for the season, a crib sheet for their cot and a blanket. Infants and toddlers also need diapers and wipes. Please label everything with your child’s name.

How does my child’s first week work?

We recommend a few hours on each of the first two days, then a little longer each day, so your child eases into a full day.

My child has an IEP or needs extra support. Is The Art Learning Center a good fit?

Children of all abilities are welcome. Share your child’s plan with us and we will work with you to put it into practice in the classroom.

Can we celebrate my child’s birthday at school?

Yes. You are welcome to send a special snack to share with the class at afternoon snack time.

How do you celebrate holidays?

We celebrate the seasons with classroom parties, art projects and family workshops, so the whole class takes part.
